Ecotour

Approximately 50% of Guatemalans are direct descendants of the ancient Maya. The local Q’eqchi’ dress, speak, work and cook in many of the same ways of their ancestors. Come and spend a few unforgettable days with a Q’eqchi’ family. Experience and participate in this uniquely Guatemalan culture.

The objective of this project is ecotourism, which means responsible tourism, direct interaction with the community and contact with beautiful nature.

Unreachable by car, we will hike for around 40 minutes to reach Chiconop, a tiny village hidden in the Sierra de Chama.

  • Learn how to make tortillas and traditional Mayan dishes like Calá or Kak’ik. You will see how cacao, cardamom, sugar cane, corn and beans are planted and processed.
  • Learn about ancient Mayan traditions and rituals while sitting around the fire.
  • Help the family with house hold tasks such as cooking, carrying water and gathering firewood.
  • Play with the kids, teach them a game or share a special talent you have.

Don’t miss this unique experience!
